Mark C Thompson did and he wrote a scenario for Les Petits Riens using Commedia characters. "The Hungers of Arlecchino" will be performed by Mark and Company at Duquesne University Saturday August 29, 8PM, and Sunday August 30, 2PM, in the Peter Mills Theater of Rockwell Hall. All tickets $6.00. Free admission with DU card.
Four characters, Arlecchino, Pantalone, Isabella and Brighella the baker tell a story in the Italian Commedia style with masks. Arlecchino, always hungry, always broke, wants breakfast, and ends up with a lot on his hands. Pantalone gets his pocket picked. And more.
This performance is a short program of compositions for movement theatre. It includes:
* "Trio," (1st movement) created to Ingolf Dahl's "Music for Brass Instruments;"
* excerpts from "Flight From Himself," Mark Thompson's one-man
show;
* "Fanette," a love story; and
* "The Hungers of Arlecchino," a commedia dell'arte inspired
piece performed to the music composed for pantomime by
W.A. Mozart.

ReplyDeleteMark C. Thompson studied MIME in Paris with Ella Jaroszewicz, and was a member of her theater company (Le Magenia 1972-1978.) He performed a one-man show throughout Italy and Germany under the auspices of the United Nations. From 1980 to 1982, he appeared on Broadway...was part of the celebrated Swiss mime/mask troupe Mummenschanz...founded the Pittsburgh Mime Theater in 2002....performed his own one-man shows at the Smithsonian Institution, the Centre Pompidou (Paris) and the Philadelphia and Carnegie Museums of art...has been teaching mime and movement training for actors at CMU, Point Park University, University of Munchen, University of Brazil... faculty member of Drama Program at Duquesne University...
Mark is also acting for PICT, Pittsburgh Public Theater...
His latest one man MIME show was "Flight from himself ".

ReplyDeleteYou and your students are a wonderfully talented group. Your show " Who knew Mozart wrote Pantomime" was a wonderful production. The music, lighting, costumes were excellent. As for the performances - outstanding. Through music, body movement and artistic expression, you presented a treat for all the senses without the filter of language. Bravo!

ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful performances. The evening was truly stunning. My only complaint is that it was too short. It was a treat to see a live performance of your work from 'Flight'. As wonderful as the video was, there is no substitute for the magic you create for a live audience. It seems to me that the years and years of careful study and discipline translate into ease and grace in execution on stage. I am grateful I was there to see it.
The students were also quite good, and it seems to me that the formation of the group is the right step in finding more interesting ways of expressing and communicating in the theatre.
Well done. I wish you all continued success and the necessary support to fulfill future goals.
